Frequently Asked Questions

What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is the most popular video game ever created, with over 500 million downloads. It is also one of the most educational games and is actually part of the curriculum in many schools. Players appear in a 3D virtual world and are challenged to use available resources to find food, create structures and more.

Why should my child learn with Minecraft?

The learning benefits of Minecraft are as endless as the game itself. Aside from being a great way to introduce coding to kids, they also learn several different aspects including game design, city planning, sustainability and activate their creativity and critical thinking skills. Minecraft offers a wealth of learning opportunities beyond hours of entertainment.

What college and career opportunities can this course lead to?

Minecraft is a great way to develop programming skills, which give kids a competitive advantage across several industries. Kids create mods using Java or Python, two of the most popular programming languages around. Making the transition from playing Minecraft to thinking critically about the game is one of the best ways to encourage young kids to pursue STEM in school, college, and beyond.

What is the online camp experience like?

Students who have a busy schedule will benefit from our online camps as it greatly reduces the commute time to and from class! They will need to spare only 90 minutes a day from the comfort of home to attend the online camp! As with all our classes, students will benefit from a private online 1-on-1 class with an experienced tutor.

Is this lesson suitable for all skill levels?

Absolutely! Because our Online Private Lessons are 1-on-1 with an instructor, the curriculum is customized to meet your child’s skill level, unique interests, and long-term goals. Whether they are just starting out or super advanced, our experienced instructors will engage them to bring out their best!

What are the technical requirements for this camp?

Students will need a Windows or Mac computer with a connected mic and webcam. They also need to have Zoom installed. We do not recommend tablets, as the multi-tasking ability between Zoom and some browser-based teaching platforms is often unreliable. Students will also need access to Minecraft Education Edition which will be provided by AlphaGen.
